Hoxton Mini Press: The Council House

About This

The Council House by Jack Young is a 208-page hardback documenting 68 of London’s most distinctive council estates. Moving from Brutalist blocks to Modernist towers, Young’s photography highlights the thought, ambition and social purpose behind these buildings and the communities they were designed to serve.

Why We Chose It

We like books that offer a closer look at the design and culture found in everyday surroundings. The Council House does exactly that, presenting London’s social housing with a clear and considered eye. It’s an easy book to dip into, with plenty of architectural detail and a subject that deserves a place on the shelf.
